Fairfax County’s new state-of-the-art Alzheimer’s and memory care facility blends technology and behavior therapy with electronic storyboard network
ANNANDALE, Va. (Jan. 11, 2019) – The Harbor at Renaissance of Annandale will offer SimpleC, a cutting-edge, scientifically proven memory loss therapy to improve the lives of its residents when this premier memory care facility opens in early 2019.
The SimpleC program blends technology with behavior therapy through an electronic storyboard network to promote memory retention and healthy living of residents suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This do-no-harm memory care solution is free from the side effects and dangerous risks that can come with other forms of treatments. Institutions such as Johns Hopkins, Georgia Tech and Emory led the creation of the electronic storyboard treatment through years of research.
With SimpleC Companion, a personalized computer tablet, each resident will receive assistance individually tailored to help them recall memories of important people and key life events through calming music, familiar images and voices. The Companion also serves as a wellness coach, using rich and stimulating personalized daily reminders to increase participation in activities, enhance nutrition and improve sleep quality.
SimpleC Care Specialists collect information from family, friends and caregivers to create resident profiles for their tablet Companions. Each resident’s story is regularly updated through feedback and additional information, recordings and other materials.
The electronic storyboard network also serves as a personal storyteller, allowing residents to share their interests and family history with neighbors and caregivers on the large television in the Town Theater in the common area of the community. SimpleC helps residents develop new friendships and strengthen the sense of community at The Harbor at Renaissance of Annandale.
“Our programs at The Harbor are intentionally designed to help seniors find a safe haven from the storms of dementia. We are confident these innovative programs will enhance the lives of our residents and give our families a high-quality environment for their family members,” said Bryan Cook, COO of Legacy Senior Living, the Cleveland, Tenn.-based company that manages Renaissance of Annandale.
