The Harbor at Renaissance of Annandale Partners with Hope for Appalachia to Prepare ‘Hope Boxes’ for Disadvantaged Children in Southeastern KY and Southwestern VA

Renaissance of Annandale Accepting Donations of School Supplies, Small Toys, Toiletries and Canned Food Through March 1

ANNANDALE, Va. (Feb. 22, 2019) – The Harbor at Renaissance of Annandale, a premier memory care community serving Fairfax County, is partnering with its sister facility, Renaissance Assisted Living of Greene County, in Stanardsville, Va., in support of Hope for Appalachia, by sending 50 “Hope Boxes” to disadvantaged children living in poverty-stricken areas of southeastern Kentucky and southwestern Virginia.

The Hope Boxes, each about the size of a shoebox, are filled with supplies such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, socks, warm clothes, school supplies, and toys.

“It is an honor to serve the children who are so impacted by their lack of resources and have nothing. I am so proud of being a part of a company that offers gifts and blessings to those that are so deserving,” said Pamela Phillips, executive director of Renaissance of Annandale.

Hope for Appalachia is a collaborative group of churches, businesses and individuals who deliver the boxes to the impoverished communities. Teams based in North Carolina and Kentucky each coordinate an annual trip to serve these needy children and their families.

“Renaissance Annandale team and friends are proud to support the children of Appalachia because education, along with supplies, are important.  When one is hungry or feels less than a person by not having necessities, they suffer from poor self-esteem, lack of pride and a feeling of being left out. We are happy to provide the little things that help them concentrate on the bigger picture -- on being successful, alive and open to God’s blessings for them and a future of hope,” said Sandra Fields, marketing director of Renaissance of Annandale.

The Harbor at Renaissance of Annandale invites the public to drop off school supplies, small toys, toiletries and canned foods through Friday, March 1, in support of Hope for Appalachia.

It is an honor to serve the children who are so impacted by their lack of resources and have nothing. I am so proud of being a part of a company that offers gifts and blessings to those that are so deserving. Pamela Phillips, executive director of Renaissance of Annandale
